A software upgrade was made to the iNWS software a few weeks ago to resolve an issue caused by counties/zones divided by a complex border (ie river, coastal area). This change inadvertently created a new problem. For situations when a warning polygon crossed and ran just inside the neighboring county boundary, the alert was sent to that county as well. A software fix to iNWS was implemented on 1/31/2013 at 1910z to correct the issue. We apologize for any confusion this caused.

The NWS has made a decision to provide iNWS services only to NWS core partners as defined within our new Terms of Use agreement. A complete description of the iNWS service is available in our new Service Description Document.
Users that registered for iNWS before November 2009 will be receiving an email requesting that they provide additional information to verify that they are eligible to use iNWS. Users who are no longer eligible or who do not provide account validation information will be deleted from the iNWS system on October 11th, 2010. This applies only to users who receive an email requesting they validate their accounts. All other users have already provided the necessary information.

All iNWS users can now enable text message alerts. To enable text message alerts, log into your iNWS account and go to the 'Settings' page. There, you will be able to enter your cell phone number and toggle on text message alerts. Email alerts continute to work as usual.

This update provides a new look and feel in addition to bug fixes and improved support for mobile web browsers. The new iNWS web page also includes a new frequently asked questions (FAQ) section, the option to toggle between the mobile and non-mobile versions of the page, and a simple feedback form to submit bug reports and feature requests.

For the last month, iNWS text message alerts have been limited to National Weather Service Warning products. We are now sending iNWS text message alerts for National Weather Service Advisory, Watch, and Warning products. This news item is informational and no action is required by any iNWS user.
